Demolition and Adaptation Database (DaAD)

The purpose of the DaAD was to collect detailed information about buildings that were adapted or demolished. Building professionals and owners entered information about building projects with which they were well-acquainted. A custom website was used for data entry. There were four types of projects: adaptation, demolition, partial (section/wing) demolition, and mixed adaptation/demolition.

Data was collected for 41 buildings during the period 2018-2020. These data were analyzed and reported in the doctoral dissertation of Zoraya R. Rockow (cited below). Data were used to analyze and identify factors about original building designs that contributed to adaptation and/or demolition decisions. Further documentation and explanation of the DaAD is available in Appendix B of the aforementioned dissertation.

 Survey on Building Adaptation Data

The purpose of this survey was to collect information on building adaptation projects and the building features that facilitated or impeded adaptations. The survey was administered to building professionals via Google Forms or in-person. A total of 89 responses were collected between October 2017 and July 2019, from the US and the UK.

These data were collected as part of the work supported by the National Science Foundation under CAREER Grant No. 1553565.

Campus Building Survey

The purpose of this survey was to collect information on building adaptation and demolition projects on US higher education campuses. The survey was administered to campus facilities personnel via Google Forms. A total of 26 responses were collected between August 2021 and April 2022.

These data were collected as part of the work supported by the National Science Foundation under CAREER Grant No. 1553565.
